First published in 1952 The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins has reported on all aspects of the Canadian numismatic scene, from the coinage of the French Regime to the business strikes of today. For over 60 years Canadian Coins has been the bible for collectors. The 68th edition of Canadian Coins is based on all coins which have been used as circulating legal tender in Canada from 1858 to 2013. It is the fifth catalogue published based solely on Canada s circulating business strikes. Over one hundred and fifty years of Canadian coins are listed, illustrated and priced. More than one hundred and twenty-five varieties, through the seven denominations, are listed, most with macro images for ease of identification.
Canadian Coins was divided into two separate books starting with the 64th edition, spinning off the Collector and Maple Leaf Issues into Volume Two. Over the next four editions, we slowly moved the Royal Canadian Mint collector issues to Volume Two from their original place in Volume One. This year the proof listings (1996-2013) of sterling and fine silver 5-, 10-, 25-, and 50-cent coins, along with the proof bronze and copper cents, are now listed in their own tables in Volume Two. The one cent table, of course, will terminate at 2012 due to the discontinuation of the one-cent coin on May 4th, 2012. With the retirement of the one cent coin from our coinage the chapter on large and small cents has come to an end. This collection of Canadian coppers is now complete.
Included in the 68th edition is a revised Variety Section covering the George VI fifty cent pieces (1937-1952). With over four hundred major varieties found in this series, this 41-page introduction to the series will assist the collector in developing a road map to guide them through the many twists and turns. Just to illustrate the depth of major varieties in the George VI half dollar series, a previously undiscovered variety surfaced, a 1948 narrow date, with a Repunched 4, which is now listed.
