Detective Alan Schriever used to be a good cop. Now he's been suspended from the Vienna, Ohio Police Department for over a year, everyone in the department thinks he's crazy, his coffeemaker hates him, and his life is falling apart. Also, the rest of the police might be robots, and he might be crazy. When he gets called back to investigate a mysterious death and is teamed with an unusual detective from Darke County, the two men are dragged into a supernatural mystery that makes even Alan's strangest delusions seem perfectly normal.
