A World War II naval ship suffers a brutal kamizaki attack. While the ship plunges into the sea, five sailors surface and struggle into a life raft. They realize they are the lone survivors in the middle of the Pacific without a way to find help. Archie, the only religious man in the group, says theyre in Gods hands, to which the other men reply they have been far too sinful for God to care about them. To pass the time, they decide to tell their life stories and what they cant be forgiven of, no matter how vile. They make a vow that the stories would remain sealed until all but one had died. The last man living writes this book to keep his promise.
