The second edition of Alternative Healing: The Sufi Way by Shaykh Taner Ansari is designed to give healing practitioners a basic understanding of and methods used in Sufi healing. Shaykh Taner has provided Sufis and anyone else interested in spiritual healing with a book that is uplifting for both spirits and bodies. Readers will love the focus of the book, which is a veritable pharmacopoeia of Quranic verses related to specific ailments affecting one's spiritual and physical being. The book is divided into nine chapters. The first two give general information about the conditions necessary for healing to take place, as well as techniques for making a diagnosis. Chapter III is on illnesses that are formed by the body such as cancer or diabetes. Chapters IV through VI discuss uses for specific verses from the Holy Quran; Chapter VIII, the uses of the names, or attributes, of Allah in healing. Chapter VII is devoted to unseen forces, known as jinn. Shaykh Taner discusses how to recognize if there is a jinn in the patient, how to expel the jinn, and how to complete the healing. Chapter IX gives specific uses of spiritual geometrical diagrams called taweez. Also, an appendix is included with natural chemical and biological recipes for healing.
