The Second Edition of Gary Bronson's highly successful book takes a hands-on, applications approach to CS1. The book begins with procedural programming in C, and then gradually introduces object-oriented programming features and the C++ language syntax that enables first-time programmers to use them. While much of C++'s popularity derives from its object-oriented features, student programmers need to learn first how to move from traditional procedural programming to OOP - from here to there, as the subtitle states - before they can take advantage of these features. Bronson's class-tested approach eases the transition. The book provides an abundance of carefully-developed program examples, programming exercises (following each section), and sections identifying common programming errors.
